The fellow will be involved in learning the comprehensive management of the bariatric patient with emphasis on the surgical techniques of laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. In addition, the fellow will learn the treatment of surgical disorders of the foregut. The fellow will be involved in resident education, skill acquisition, and research.

  • Operate three days a week
  • Have on average one day per week of clinic responsibility as well as a half day of protected research time
  • Expected to participate in our weekly M & M conference as well as monthly journal clubs
  • Be involved in bi-monthly laparoscopic skills labs in conjunction with other attendings
  • Be involved with two research projects during the year as well and editing a minimum of one video per year
  • There is an optional endoscopy rotation available (one-half day per week)

The fellow will be exposed to a variety of other advanced laparoscopic procedures during the year including:

  • laparoscopic antireflux procedures
  • laparoscopic paraesophageal hernias 
  • laparoscopic esophagectomy
  • laparoscopic Heller myotomy 
  • laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair
  • laparoscopic ventral hernia repair 
  • laparoscopic colon resections 
  • laparoscopic adrenalectomy 
  • laparoscopic splenectomy
