Women's Health services expand to Boscobel
Shannan Stephens, MD, Gundersen gynecologist
Gundersen Health System has expanded its gynecological services to Boscobel, making it more convenient for women to receive specialized care close to home.
Gundersen board-certified gynecologist Shannan Stephens, MD, sees patients at Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics. She specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases, and problems of the female reproductive system.
"Women have unique healthcare needs at all stages of life. I see patients from menarche (first menstrual period) to post-menopause who have gynecological concerns that are out-of-scope of their primary care provider," explains Dr. Stephens.
Appointments are available in Boscobel to help with:
- Abnormal bleeding
- Abnormal Pap smears
- Pelvic pain
- Uterine fibroids
- Non-surgical management of uterine prolapse
- Contraception care, including permanent options
In addition to office visits, Dr. Stephens performs procedures and outpatient surgeries in Boscobel.
While you do not need a referral to be seen by Dr. Stephens, she does recommend keeping your primary care provider in the loop about any health-related changes or concerns. "A simple contact with your primary care provider—via phone, MyCare message or visit—is helpful so they can help you decide which service and provider can best meet your healthcare needs," advises Dr. Stephens.
A working mother herself, Dr. Stephens understands women have many demands on their time. "It feels good to be saving patients three hours out of their day [about the time it takes to make the round-trip drive from Boscobel to La Crosse], especially for simple follow-up appointments," Dr. Stephens says.
She adds, "It's been a pleasure to work alongside the staff at Gundersen Boscobel Area Hospital and Clinics. They are so engaged in providing great experiences for their patients, and I'm glad to be a part of that."
