Fun ways to move more this fall
Here are 3 ways to get in more physical activity while you enjoy some seasonal fun.
No matter where you live, autumn is a great time to get outdoors and have some fun. It's also the perfect time of year to get in some extra physical activity while engaging in seasonal activities. If you're looking for ways to move more this autumn without having to head to the gym, here are a few fun things to do:
- Get in the spirit of the season. Toss a football with friends while tailgating at a game or organize your own game of touch football with friends or family. Find your way through a corn maze. Visit a local farmers' market or a fall festival or street fair. All of these activities will get you off the couch, out enjoying the fresh air and moving more.
- Pick seasonal produce. If you live near a farm, take advantage of pick-your-own fruit and veggie opportunities. You'll not only get to enjoy fresh produce right off the tree or vine but you'll get in some activity as you walk the fields and reach or bend to harvest the fruit and vegetables. If you're picking pumpkins, you'll also be doing a bit of weightlifting in the process. If you can walk to the fields rather than taking a hayride, you'll get in some extra steps.
- Take a hike. Whether you live in a locale where fall is marked by the vibrant colors of changing leaves or your foliage stays green year-round, this time of year is ideal for hiking. Visit a trail close to home or take a ride to a new location to explore new sites. There are hiking trails for all abilities, from beginner to expert, so find one that suits you. This activity is not only good for your body but it's also good for your mood and is a great stress-buster.
