Repair aging and sun-damaged skin

Does your skin show wrinkles, drooping, dryness and uneven pigmentation from summers of forgotten sunscreen? The sun’s UVA and UVB rays play a huge role in your skin looking older than you feel. But there are some things you can do to minimize these signs of aging.

Check out some of these proven and popular strategies to help stop or even reverse sun damage:

  • Exfoliate. Exfoliants, including scrubs, masks and cleansers, remove the dead, outermost skin cell layer, leaving skin looking smoother. Try GlymedPlus Anti-aging Exfoliating Mask or Theraderm Fruit Acid Exfoliant—all available at our online store.
  • Use an antioxidant moisturizer every day. Antioxidants may help reverse some signs of sun damage and prevent further damage. Look for a lightweight formula that contains vitamin C, A and E, and/or green tea such as GlymedPlus Photo-Age Protection Cream 15 and Daily Repair Mega Moisture Cream available at our online store.

Visit Gundersen Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics or Dermatology for various options including:

  • Chemical peels which help clear away dry, dull skin, smooth out tone and minimize pore size. Peels can have a smoothing effect on skin and give it a healthier glow.
  • Laser treatments, including Laser Resurfacing, ProFractional Laser, Arctic Peel, Micro Laser Peel and South Beach Peel, can improve blotchiness, discoloration, lines and wrinkles. They work by promoting the creation of new collagen cells. The result is a more youthful appearance, with skin imperfections minimized. We’ll work with you to recommend the treatment that’s right for you.
  • Broad Band Light (BBL) which is used to treat age spots, wrinkling and other sun damage.

Finally, though you may already have some sun damage, don’t forget to always apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30+ at least 30 minutes before heading outside. Continued daily use of sunscreen allows your skin time to heal and repair some of the existing damage.
