We've all heard that eating breakfast is supposed to be good for you, maybe even the most important meal of the day, so why do so many people skip it?

Here are the top four reasons why people often leave home without it:

  1. I don't have time in the morning
  2. I'm not hungry that early
  3. I just feel more hungry all day when I do eat breakfast
  4. I don't like breakfast foods

Making time to prepare and eat breakfast takes planning. Consider preparing part of the meal the night before. Set out your blender and have ingredients ready to go for a quick breakfast smoothie. Use your microwave for fast cereal preparation. Have a hard cooked egg ready to go.
If you're not in the habit of eating breakfast, you may not feel hungry in the morning. Think of your body in training and start with something small at first. Over time you will find that you look forward to breakfast and can't leave home without it.

Some studies suggest that eating a breakfast "jump starts" your metabolism, or how you burn your food energy. Running on a higher metabolism all day means you feel hungrier, but you burn your calories more efficiently. So in the long run eating breakfast may help you lose weight by revving up your engine.

If you don't like traditional breakfast foods, consider alternatives such as leftovers from the night before, a breakfast tortilla wrap with deli meat, low fat cheese, and lettuce or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Now that you are considering eating a breakfast here are the top four reasons why you should:

  1. More energy throughout the day
  2. Improved concentration at work and school
  3. Better grades
  4. Helps maintain a healthy weight
