The registration deadline is Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Registrations will not be accepted after this date. Advance registration is required. Registration fees include dinner and certificate. An email will be sent the week of the conference with parking information and other details about the conference.

The Annual Optometric Review Course has been renamed to honor and memorialize our colleague, Dr. Ken Purdue, who passed away on September 17, 2014, at the age of 61.

Intended Audience and Purpose: This program is designed for clinicians practicing optometry and ophthalmology. The purpose of this conference is to offer eye care providers an update on patient management issues, strategies, and treatment plans.

Continuing Education Credits: Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation Inc. is accredited by the Wisconsin Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation Inc. designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

An application has been submitted for continuing education approval to the Optometric Boards of Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Certificates: Certificates will be emailed to attendees within four weeks of completion of the online evaluation.

  • Review the signs and symptoms of acute retinal ischemia and associated etiologies
  • Discuss the work-up and treatment for patients with acute retinal ischemia

  • Identify the most common causes of persistent epithelial defect
  • Review the common treatments for persistent epithelial defect
8:15 p.m. Current Management of Non-Arteritic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION)
Steven Whitford, MD, Ophthalmology
  • Identify the disease by recognizing common risk factors and its classic presentation
  • Interpret the clinical picture and discern anterior and posterior sub-types
  • Devise a plan for laboratory and in-office testing to corroborate diagnosis and set patient expectations
  • Predict the course of the disease and then explain the risk of recurrence or contralateral involvement
  • Assess comfort for self-management or referral of NAION patients
