Global Initiatives Week

Global Partners is excited to be part of the first-ever Global Initiatives Week for our region, planned for Nov. 8-15, 2013. This week was designed to create awareness of our region's global connections and to encourage the citizens of our region to get involved, both locally and abroad!

Are you hungry for something with international pizazz? Chef Thomas Sacksteder, CEC, Dietary, is cooking up special recipes during Global Initiatives Week and bringing the world a little closer to La Crosse. Friday, Nov. 8, and Thursday, Nov. 14
Global Partners will air the documentary, “Dreaming Nicaragua,” on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Overholt Auditorium at noon. Another two showings are planned on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Rasmus Center, one showing at 5:30pm and the second showing at 7pm. The film portrays the lives of four Nicaraguan children who are submerged in extreme poverty. Viewers are given a close-up look of the conflicts—both small and large—that they face. The film is recommended for mature audiences (high school and older). Viewer discretion is advised. Go here on YouTube to watch the trailer.

Saturday, Nov. 9
Jingling Wang will play traditional Chinese music on the piano. Jiachun Zhen will demonstrate Tai Ji, a traditional form of Chinese shadow boxing. The performances are planned for 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Monday, Nov. 11
A live presentation from Nicaragua via Skype is planned by the Gundersen Global Partners team on Monday, Nov. 11, in the Overholt Auditorium at noon. Come see the work the team is doing at the Fara Clinic!

Friday, Nov. 15
Visit displays outside the Heritage Building (current Hospital) Cafeteria highlighting Global Partners’ outreach in Pine Ridge, S.D. It is part of Native American Awareness Month.

All week
On display in the Clinic Atrium will be large photographs of old homes and the new ones being built in Nicaragua. Artwork from school children will be on display as well. This is made possible with the support of Global Partners from previous fundraising efforts.
