New linear accelerator increases access, improves cancer care
The Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders at Gundersen Health System is home to a new linear accelerator—some of the latest and most precise technology for delivering radiation treatment to your patients.
Collin Driscoll, MD
The new, fully integrated system for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery treats complex cancers in areas such as the head and neck, brain, lung, breast, liver and abdomen. One of its unique features, and an advantage over other radiation treatment models, is the high-intensity delivery mode. Fast delivery allows for reduced chances of tumor motion during treatment, which helps protect surrounding healthy tissues in your patients.
"High-intensity delivery mode also makes treatment times shorter. Most treatments can be given in as few as a couple minutes per day," says Collin Driscoll, MD, Radiation Oncology.
The addition of the new machine also means that your patients have increased access to appointment times for greater scheduling convenience.
"This investment helps us keep up with the demand for services while providing the best in cancer treatment, close to home," says Jared Kast, clinical manager, Radiation Oncology.
