Priority One Heart Attack Program
This program uses a team approach for the swift transfer of patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) who need PCI, such as angioplasty and stenting. Priority One at Gundersen was the first of its kind in Wisconsin. At the heart of the program is a network of more than 15 regional emergency departments that have partnered with Gundersen. The skilled EMS personnel and Gundersen's Emergency Services staff round out the team.
With a single call, emergency medical transportation is dispatched and a specialized team is mobilized to prepare for the patient who, upon arrival at Gundersen, is taken directly to the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Gundersen also has cardiac surgery available if needed, including minimally invasive heart bypass.
In addition to in-house echocardiograms, Gundersen's Mobile Echo Services make it easier for your patients to receive this service closer to home. Our cardiac sonographers travel with mobile echo units to more than a dozen regional locations. They perform routine adult and pediatric transthoracic echoes at all these locations as well as stress echoes at select locations. Data is transmitted to a cardiologist at Gundersen in La Crosse for interpretation. You, as the primary care provider, will receive a report usually within one week—sooner if necessary. For more information on our Mobile Echo program call (608) 775-2659 or (800) 362-9567, ext. 52659.
