Danielle Berdahl, MD

Danielle Berdahl, MD, a maternal fetal medicine specialist and board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, has joined Gundersen Health System. With Dr. Berdahl's welcome addition, the High Risk Obstetric Clinic at Gundersen is once again offering a full complement of services to manage the care and treatment of women with complicated pregnancies.

Dr. Berdahl specializes in perinatal ultrasound diagnosis of congenital anomalies/genital disorders as well as care of mothers with significant chronic health problems or prior poor pregnancy outcomes. Her scope of practice also includes care of pregnancies with fetal complications and preconception counseling for high-risk patients.

"I am looking forward to being part of the great, dedicated Obstetrics/Gynecology team and enhancing the well-being of women in our region," says Dr. Berdahl. "I was drawn to Gundersen because of its mission to create better lives for patients and their families, for employees and the community."

Dr. Berdahl works collaboratively with primary care clinicians, obstetricians/gynecologists, certified nurse midwives, genetic counselors and a broad range of specialists and local teams to help coordinate the care of patients at high risk.

"It takes a village to manage the complex conditions of women before, during and after pregnancy. It's my role to understand how pregnancy affects various body systems and how the physiology changes patients' medications," explains Dr. Berdahl.

Shared care is common upon referral to the High Risk Obstetric Clinic. For example, Dr. Berdahl helps co-manage women with a history of preterm delivery. For more complex cases, such as diabetic patients on medication or mothers carrying monoamniotic twins, Dr. Berdahl and her team in the High Risk Obstetrics Clinic fully assume care for them. The team includes a social worker, registered dietitian, ultrasonographer, care coordinator and genetic counselors.
