Temper tantrums, pushing the limits, moodiness, arguing, experimentation with alcohol or drugs, and worrying can all be normal parts of childhood. But, if parents feel their child's behavior is not normal, their attempts to correct behavior problems have not worked, or the behavior is starting to interfere with the child's life it may be time to turn to the experts. Gundersen Behavioral Health specialists trained to work with children in La Crosse and the surrounding area.

Gundersen Behavioral Health Child and Adolescent Services evaluate and treat behavioral, emotional, social and psychiatric difficulties. They provide treatment for conditions, such as:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Depression
  • Oppositional-defiant disorder
  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Substance abuse (alcohol and other drugs)

  • Autism and behavior disorders
  • Pervasive developmental disorders

Each child seen at Gundersen Behavioral Health receives a comprehensive assessment and an individual treatment plan. Treatment plans are developed to meet the needs of children and families. The providers may also work with other departments, depending on the child's needs. Services offered include:

  • Medication management
  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Family counseling
  • Group psychotherapy
  • Psycho-educational services to the family and community

Our trained therapists also offer group interventions for young people including:

  • Adolescent Girls' Group for Depression and Anxiety
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Group for Adolescents
  • CHANGES Adolescent AODA Treatment Group that includes family therapy and a parent education group
