Gundersen Health System's bariatric surgery program has outstanding outcomes with overall low complication rates. More than 1,000 bariatric surgeries have been performed with the following outcomes:

  • For most patients, the hospital stay is two days, with less pain and a quicker recovery.
  • No deaths from bariatric surgery at Gundersen. The national death rate due to surgical complications is 1 in 100-200.
  • Typical weight loss one year after surgery is 72 percent compared to 66 percent nationally.
  • One of the lowest incidences of leak of intestinal juices at 0.3 percent.
