In an era where healthcare information is available to patients with just a few clicks of a mouse, awards represent something of a report card that tell not just what we do, but how well we do it. Objective third-party evaluations take into consideration a broad range of factors, and are based on a variety of data and measures.
Healthgrades®, one of the leading healthcare ratings organizations in the country, analyzed the nation’s more than 4,500 non-federal hospitals. Those who achieved consistent, high-quality care across the board, not just in one or two specialties, received the 2013 Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinic Excellence™. Gundersen Health System was one of only 262 hospitals achieving the distinction, placing Gundersen among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation for clinical quality care for the 6th consecutive year.
Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications. Healthgrades analysis is based on about 40 million Medicare discharges for 18 common inpatient conditions and procedures from 2009 through 2011.

In 2012, Gundersen Health System received top honors for achieving some of the highest patient experience scores in the country.
- Healthgrades named Gundersen a recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Patient Experience AwardTM. This distinction ranks Gundersen among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation for patient experience, based on the analysis of HCAHPS hospital survey data.
- At our clinic locations, patients rated their experience with us even higher, resulting in one of the highest patient experience scores in the country. National Research Corporation selected Gundersen as recipient of its 2012 Path to Excellence Award for Top Performing Organization for Rate a Doctor (Adults).
This top ranking means Gundersen had the highest percentage of patients rating their clinic healthcare provider a 9 or 10 (the highest scores possible).
