Thursday, November 01, 2012 - Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah expands orthopaedic services with the addition of provider

The Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah Clinic is pleased to welcome physician assistant, Andrea Wilson, PA-C, to their staff. Andrea joins orthopaedic surgeon Tyler Beckley, MD, in caring for patients with lower and upper extremity injuries and concerns.

“My husband grew up in Decorah, and over the years when we would come back to visit the area, we agreed that Decorah has a lot to offer and a wonderful place to raise a family,” says Andrea, who grew up in Iowa City. “I was fortunate to discover that Gundersen Lutheran was looking for an orthopaedic provider in the area, allowing me to continue working in the area of medicine I love.”

Andrea, who grew up in Iowa City, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. She then earned her Master’s of Art degree in Teaching from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, before receiving her Master’s of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Rosalind Franklin University/The Chicago Medical School, North Chicago, Ill.

Having a special medical interest in Sport Medicine, Andrea spent the last 10 years at the University of Iowa assisting in the care of student athletes and covering the Hawkeyes women’s soccer team.

With the addition of Andrea to the orthopaedic team at Gundersen Lutheran – Decorah Clinic, patients in the Decorah area now have full-time access to orthopaedic care at Gundersen Lutheran. “It is not always easy for someone with an orthopaedic injury to travel any distance for care. By providing orthopaedic care fulltime in Decorah, we hope to make it more convenient for patients to receive the care they need,” explains Andrea.

In her free time, Andrea enjoys participating in a wide variety of sports activities, particularly with her kids including running, biking and other outdoor activities.
